ME...
I offer you my long professional experience as bassplayer, composer and teacher. I teach at all levels, from never touching a instrument to elite players, and all ages. I teach also composition, theory and improvisation also using piano as a model instrument.

BIOGRAPHY...
I studied modern electric-bass with Jens Johansen and Bjørn Pedersen (1978-1980), classical double bass with Jacob Westberg (Denmark, 1980 - 85) and jazz double bass with Niels Henning Ørsted Pedersen (1986).
I am also self taught pianist and composer.

Teacher of jazz electric-bass at Odense and Copenhagen Music Conservatories (2001-2010).
Teacher at workshops and masterclasses in Denmark and abroad.

Professional musician since 1988 and author of over 12 CDs as a leader (composer and interpreter).
Active member of numerous Jazz ensembles and I leader of Niels Ryde Quartet/Trio.

Collaborations with several Danish and internationally renown artists like Lew Solloff (US), Basiru Suso (Mali), Deodato Siqier (Mozambique), Mikkel Nordsø (Denmark), Ben Monder (US), Bill McHenry (US), Wolfgang Muthspiel (Austria), Flavio Pantroja (Brasil) , Jørgen Emborg (Denmark), Thomas Frank (Sweden), Jan Kaspersen (Danmark), Simon Spang Hansen (Denmark), Pierre Dørge (Denmark), Carsten Dahl (Denmark), among others.

I put a lot of emphasis on the basic elements on the bass: knowledge of the notes, scales, theory, sight reading but also ear training and improvising, learning to play groovy bass passages and walking bass lines.
I teach original elements of my own invention on bass techniques, developed fusing elements of classical and modern double bass applied on the electric bass.
For the more advanced players I teach expanding and connecting scales, improvisation on jazz standards, and other genres (pop, soul, brazilian, salsa, fusion, funk-slap, rock, african), finger techniques (two finger, muted thumb technique, slap bass), advanced technical exercises, elements of virtuosism.
